Apa Sherpa would gladly give up his title of world record holder and all the accolades that come with being a famous mountaineer for an education and career as a medical doctor. Apa believes that there is no greater necessity, no greater gift, than education. It is his top priority, not just for his own children, but for the children of his homeland of Nepal. 

Desire for his children to receive an education is what brought Apa to the United States in 2006. While the decision to leave his home was a difficult one, he knew that moving would provide opportunities that would allow him to help children in his homeland to obtain the education he never had.
